Tudor Revival old south

PROJECT VISION

These repeat clients moved to a charming new home and wanted a planting plan that would enhance their property’s unique character. With their extensive experience in building and renovating homes, they had already designed and installed the concrete hardscape and pool. Now, they were looking for a planting scheme that would add strong garden structure using evergreens, along with fragrant flowering plants and ornamental grasses, particularly around the pool area.

design

In the front yard, the planting design features a formal arrangement with hedges and low-spreading evergreens to screen the base of the front porch and establish the garden's foundation. A weeping Redbud, a specimen chosen to repeat the existing Redbud and to anchor the house corner under the overhead electrical wire, adds beautiful spring flowers. Hydrangeas provide long-lasting blooms, complemented by fragrant flowering perennials like Peonies.

To screen views around the key entertaining areas, a hedge of columnar trees is combined with additional hedges of Boxwood, Yews. Cedar hedges provide privacy from the street. This structured greenery is softened with a green-leafed Japanese Maple, underplanted with Sedge. Ornamental grasses were chosen to provide summer structure, added texture and visual interest while also anticipating space and moisture for winter snow piles.

In the backyard and around the pool area, evergreen hedges of Yew and Boxwood were repeated to ensure continuity in the design. Ornamental grasses introduce dynamic movement with warm summer breezes and also provide screening from the parking area and driveway. Hydrangeas contribute vibrant blooms throughout summer and fall.

And to top it off, Peaches, the family pet, made a delightful cameo appearance!
