Modern scandinavian farmhouse

Project Vision

Completely renovated inside and out by CCR Build + Remodel, this warm, inviting modern farmhouse is home to a busy family with Scandinavian roots. The big ideas behind the design were to draw the architecture out, situate the home in its rural context, and incorporate the wild landscapes reminiscent of Scandinavia, Muskoka, and the Bruce Peninsula. The focus is on nature with a simple, sophisticated look.

DESIGN

The architecture of the house’s facade was drawn out into the landscape to create a visual transition between public and private space using the bisected walls. The long, stone-clad freestanding wall defines the space and is warmed up by the longboard-clad shorter wall.

Weathered fieldstone have been nestled in the mulch at the corners and provide an organic element into the linear lines of the home and walls.

“Gardens Are for People” is proclaimed in the title of the book by Thomas D. Church, the famous landscape architect. Consider all the ways that landscapes improve the lives of all family members.

Foster play! Around the plants and tactile, organic fieldstone boulders, the front yard has become a favourite play zone with the dinosaurs.
